Why I Protested for cannabis at the beaches of Puerto Rico
“Get up, stand up, Stand up for your rights. Get up, stand up, Don’t give up the fight.”
― Bob Marley
I go to various beaches here in the tropical island of Puerto Rico. For over the past 5 years, I have been protesting for the environment at all these various beaches with my “aggressive” signs to awaken the people’s consciousness, to raise awareness of the littering problem that has been going on here as most of the beaches here and all around the island become landfills. Pictures of My protest can be found here.
“Never be afraid to raise your voice for honesty and truth and compassion against injustice and lying and greed. If people all over the world…would do this, it would change the earth.”
― William Faulkner
I felt it was my calling to evolve my way of being to start changing things as it should be all of our calling. Which is why along with protesting for the environment I also protest for cannabis at the beaches of Puerto Rico.
As I walked with my environmental signs, I also walked around with a cannabis flag everywhere I went. At first I thought to myself, I did not need the flag since it kind of took attention away from my environmental message but they are both equally as important.
To change perceptions
I would walk around the beach cleaning what I find along with my signs protesting for the environment. I would smoke before I protested and clean up the beach as I wanted to change the perception of how the ignorant perceive us to be. That mindset that we are some lazy stoners who just lay around eating munchies. We are doctors, musicians, surgeons, chefs, Activist Etc.
I wrote a blog here on how I do more smoking cannabis than most people who drink alcohol which can be read here. Let’s see a drunk person walk around with those signs like I do high. Let’s see a drunk person clean up a beach, chances are they will stumble around. But that is acceptable to see people drunk, stumbling around with their speech slurred, where most of us who smoke are peaceful, mellow and feeling happy is not. The hypocrisy and ignorance is why I choose to protest and to carry that flag wherever I go.
To Educate
You see, I protest at the beach for cannabis because we have been silent about this for far too long. We don’t speak about it as if it was taboo.
Oh my, the forbidden fruit.
In bringing my flag with me to the beaches where children are likely to see it, I want families to have a discussion of cannabis. Not a discussion of the lies that they have been ignorant to.
Not a discussion that it is some vial drug and that it is bad for you, as they give their children Doritos and fast food and their overly sugared caffeinated beverage , which all do more harm than cannabis would ever do, as I believe Soda is more addictive than cannabis could ever be, which if most people don’t know are drugs in their own right (I wrote a blog here, Caffeine Vs. Cannabis). Not only more addictive, but causes more health problems than cannabis can ever do.
I want them to discuss the benefits of cannabis. But we live in a world where we want the schools to teach our children everything, when schools just teach kids what to think, not how to think.
Being the outspoken person that I am, having that flag, I get the chance to educate families and their children at the beach. Most parents I speak with have no idea about the many aspects of cannabis.
It’s great to enlighten others on this plant and for them to actually listen with their children and for them to ask questions. Many know that cannabis is less harmful than the alcohol and the cigarettes they consume.
“If I were to remain silent, I’d be guilty of complicity.”
― Albert Einstein
Much less harmful than the fast foods and the chemically processed foods out there. But other than knowing that fact, they don’t deep further into it’s many benefits and choose to continue to use all these things that are worse than cannabis could ever be just because it is illegal.
But in engaging in these conversations and discussions, I hope that they further their knowledge and continue the discussion and education with others.
I am in no way trying to convert peopleinto cannabis users. But for them to analyze and see that it is not what they thought it was and that this plant has much more uses than just smoking it, be it juicing it, or be it cannabis hemp.
“Protest is when I say I don’t like this. Resistance is when I put an end to what I don’t like. Protest is when I say I refuse to go along with this anymore. Resistance is when I make sure everybody else stops going along too.”
― Ulrike Marie Meinhof
Most of the people that smoke, stay hidden in the closet. They keep it from people, keep it from their family members and even from their friends.
When we should all be having a discussion about this beneficial plant and it all starts with education. But how are you going to educate your family when people don’t educate themselves.
It starts with seeing this plant as something more than a tool to get high. As seeing it as something for just shits and giggles.
To see the profoundness of cannabis and the benefits of this very beneficial plant. And so, we must use our voice and fight for what we believe in. Fight the injustices and the ignorance in this world.
The knowledge you learn from being educated to the facts of cannabis is the tool for your voice, the key to unlocking the ignorance. To speak out and not to be afraid as we have been to speak out.
We fear speaking our minds because we fear the judgement of others and we fear the persecution of us.
We fear being condemned and shunned by society for what we believe in, as we live in this world where we follow each other going no where but the same path to our own demise. We must break those walls down that everyone blindly puts up.
It’s our freedom of choice. It’s what makes life beautiful, but we continue to live in a fabricated world of conformity, following the road to no where. Where we must follow the line and we just continue to go no where with this regurgitated frame of thinking. I choose to live the life according to what I believe and many others do as well.
Everyone has the right and their own personal freedom to choose what they want to put into their own bodies. We don’t need babysitters to enforce what we choose. You have your drug of choice, we have ours and that needs to be respected.
“There has never been a ‘war on drugs’! In our history we can only see an ongoing conflict amongst various drug users – and producers. In ancient Mexico the use of alcohol was punishable by death, while the ritualistic use of mescaline was highly worshipped. In 17th century Russia, tobacco smokers were threatened with mutilation or decapitation, alcohol was legal. In Prussia, coffee drinking was prohibited to the lower classes, the use of tobacco and alcohol was legal.”
― Sebastian Marincolo
I protest for justice
I protested at the beaches of Puerto Rico because of the penalties for cannabis are harsh and very severe . Well, even spending one day in prison should be considered severe for a PLANT that harms no one and is beneficial for every species as birds consume the seeds and the leaf is vegetable to most animals, including us.
For any amount of cannabis found, you could face over 3 years of prison, at the discretion of the government enforcer known as the police, of course.
Meanwhile murderers and rapist often are set free and get less time than cannabis users. That is the crime against humanity perpetrated by the government and our own ignorance.
No one should be locked up for doing what they want to do in their one and only sole life as long as it doesn’t harm anyone.
Here we have a plant that does not kill anybody. That helps our mind achieve a more peaceful and relaxed state of mind.
It’s a plant, it’s nature and I find it absurd that we have demonized and have condemned nature and as the saying goes, NO VICTIMS, NO CRIME! Here I wrote a blog about victimless crimes.
So you are trying to say that we should be locked in a cage for over 3 years for something that we choose with our own personal freedom to put into OUR own body and that prison is the way to help us fight our supposed addiction.
To control our “personal demons”. You are saying that we need to be locked up because we are a danger to society.
“Prison is for rapists, thieves, and murderers. If you lock someone up for smoking a plant that makes them happy, then you‘re the fucking criminal.”
― Joe Rogan
The only danger we impose is the danger of thinking for ourselves. To see through all the illusions we have around us. Which is why religions and governments can’t have cannabis enthusiast out there freely thinking and using their own mind and judgements.
We pose a threat to the status quo. We develop ideas and our own creativity with cannabis. Ideas of change, which is something they can’t have as we all must follow the same regurgitated ideas and conform to the bullshit that has become “civilization”.
If somehow birds propagated seeds in your backyard, it gives a group of men permission to storm trough your house, kill your dog and endanger anyone in your home, all because of a plant that grows naturally.
The danger is not us cannabis enthusiast. It’s the government robbing us of our freedoms. The danger is in all the ignorant people who want to see us behind bars for smoking a plant.
Innocent men and women being robbed of years from their lives that they will never get back. You can say well they should not have smoked in the first place, but again who are you or anyone to say what we can and cannot put in our own bodies and if a law or statute is not just, it is your right to not obey it.
Who makes anyone the dictator of our own bodies, meanwhile all these other things that destroy us and kill us are legal.
If you want to engage in a war against us, then wage a war against alcohol, wage a war on cigarettes, wage a war on caffeine, aspirins, fast food and pharmaceuticals, all of which has kills more people than cannabis, which has killed zero people.
What we put into our bodies should not be of any concern with you, just like what you choose to put in your body is not of any concern of mine.
They all have a misconception to this plant, they never even tried it to understand that it is not what they think it is. We should not be treated as criminals. We should not be imprisoned.
“In a free society, how can you commit a crime against yourself?”
― Jesse Ventura
I find it moronic how people see us as some threat to their lives. When the fact of the matter is, the government is a danger to our lives and the ignorance of the people are a threat to our livelihood .
I wrote a blog entitled cannabis unites the people which can be read here. In this wonderful journey I have chosen, Cannabis has united me with many people from all walks of life, and different frames of thoughts.
Cannabis is a catalyst that brought us together and of course the government can’t have that. They need us in turmoil with each other, bickering and fighting over nonsensical things. We can’t have a world where we unify, oh no chaos. Lock them up and keep them away from each other.
I protest for all of our innocent brothers and sisters
Ultimately what made me carry that flag is taking a stand and standing up for all the innocent oppressed brothers and sisters behind bars.
I choose to be their voice to speak out against all of these injustices. I will be that reminder to people. If I am imprisoned, I would hope others are out there being that voice.
I think we need more forms of protest, whatever that might be. I been thinking of new ways of protesting . We have this one time of the year on April 20th that the world unites to protest. I believe we need to push this even further. Have one every month. Encourage more to join as time goes along.
I wrote a blog on an idea for a protest, a cannabis caravan which can be read here. We need to keep fighting these injustices. I won’t back down. No more prison. It is our medicine, and for some it’s spiritual.
Which it is for me. I use it for the extra amount of creativity that it gives me. I am the same person on cannabis as I am without it, just with a heightened sense of being and a heightened perception.
I have grown tired of this bullshit, while we stand around and say well one day it will be legalized, meanwhile innocent men and women keep getting incarcerated.
No more standing idly on our knees waiting for change we must make the change happen and not be content with whatever they give us just because it’s the starting point to legalizing it.
The ultimate form of protest is overgrowing this government. I believe collectively we must let nature grow again. Let it be wild. Let the birds consume it’s protein rich seeds. Let animals enjoy the vegetable that is the leafs.
I know what others are thinking, oh no the animals will get high. But newsflash, you can only get high from heating the flower, which is what we smoke. We must organize a collective strike to overgrow the world.
I believe if we all grew it, they can’t and won’t arrest us all. We need a mass civil disobedience. We must stand tall and say enough with the ignorance, hypocrisy and atrocities. Let us be FREE! FREE THE LEAF!
“Disobedience is the true foundation of liberty. The obedient must be slaves.”
― Henry David Thoreau
Now you know why I choose to protest at the beaches in Puerto Rico. I will make my statement be known. Time to use our voice. I choose to live my life with a purpose and to continue to fight for what I believe in.
To change things around. I will keep pushing the envelope. I will keep educating others. I will raise that flag high for all my fallen brothers and sisters who have fallen due to the ignorance and hypocrisy.
Don’t wait for someone you love to speak out. Don’t wait for someone you love get sick and in which cannabis can ail them. The time to speak is not tomorrow, but today! FREEDOM FOR ALL!
Do you speak out on cannabis?
