Message from beyond the grave
As I lay here on my grave, a rotting corpse, bones, a remnant of what used to be life. I write this message for those who take life for granted and for those that don’t realize how short life truly is and how little we cherish it.
This past weekend, I died. In an instant my life was taken from me as I just begun to start living. Sure I was a little negligent but death lurks on every corner, with every blink of our eye, with every breath we take and for me, with the very last step we take.
“Seeing death as the end of life is like seeing the horizon as the end of the ocean.”
-David Searls
You see this past weekend I was feeling adventurous and decided to head down this cliff on this beach. Having fun, snapping pictures. When I decided to go down a little further and as I went down, I stepped on a rock that started to tumble and roll backwards on this 2 foot platform.
As the rock tumbled off the rock. I went backwards and off of the rock, landing on the jagged rocks below, instantly ending my life as my soul escaped the prison of my body into the vast nothingness.
I am no more. Just fragments as the blood gushes out back to the sea, I remained lifeless, dull and in that instance, time stood still because time was no more.
“Do not wait until the near end of your life to realize that you have not fully live to love.”
― Lailah Gity Akita
I won’t know what it is like to have lived, because I truly didn’t live at all. I won’t know what it is to grow old, as I died young. I won’t know what it is like to visit another country because I hardly traveled.
For the latter part of my life, I, as many do, sold most of my time away. Just to “survive”. Just to “exist”. Not realizing that i never existed at all. With all that precious time that i gave away, I was already dead. I, just like many, didn’t realize it until it was too late. We are just walking corpses trying to get by in this realm we call life.
What is life if you don’t realize that you are indeed alive. What is life if you are confined into a box of your own making as you shackle your mind and your body from reality. Just like how our souls are trapped in a body. We take life for granted. We have neglected life and the beauty of life, just like how we have neglected this earth and all it’s beauty.
“You call it a near death experience, I call it a near life experience!”
― LJ Vanier
Why did I take a risk of going down that cliff. Well, in this life we live in fear as fear was instilled in us from birth. We fear to go out and live, we fear to take chances and risk, to take that leap. fear to even go out because it is not safe. We are truly afraid of death.
Once you let that fear consume you, you might as well be dead. Because once you live in fear, that is when you lose your freedom. I learned to not live in fear, but to live in the here and now. To live life with no regrets and no what ifs. Now sure there are some great risk in life we should not take, not saying we should be daredevils and risk takers. But to use logic and reason.
“Despise not death, but welcome it, for nature wills it like all else.” – Marcus Aurelius
If you read my previous blog, the path we choose. This blog could have been something that could have been written from beyond the grave as I did not fall down that cliff, but it could have been. The rock stopped just short from tumbling off the edge of the platform, which stopped my momentum from continuing to go backwards.
Although looking back at it, I am surprised that I didn’t completely go off that ledge down to my demise. I do have cat-like reflects and balance, maybe if I didn’t I would have fallen off.
What ultimately saved me, was the tips of my fingers of just one hand. As I quickly grabbed on to the jagged rocks on front of me. I grabbed on to that son of a bitch with a kung-fu grip. The tips of my fingers bled and I still managed to hold on to the cannabis flag which was held on my left hand.
“Either death is a state of nothingness and utter consciousness, or, as men say, there is a change and migration of the soul from this world to another. Now if death be of such a nature, I say that to die is to gain; for eternity is then only a single night.” – Plato
My heart almost came out of my body and my body started to shake at the impending thought of my own death. That’s the path I could have taken and I would have been just an empty void. I would have been a martyr for all the things that I have said about life being short to many people, I would have proven it by utter stupidity. In the end, our lives are just like how I saved myself. Just a fingertip tip away from death.
Now I might not consider this a near death experience, my life is did not flash on front of my eyes. But everything happened suddenly that I just did not realize anything but the rock on front of me and realizing that,
“oh shit, I am going backwards and must turn into a ninja cat.”
But I believe everyday is a near death experience, as we are inches away from death with every second that ticks by.
“Do not seek death. Death will find you. But seek the road which makes death a fulfillment.” – Dag Hammarskjöld
The following picture was taken just seconds prior to what could have been death and it would have been the last picture I would have taken..
As you can see on the picture, the rock below is the platform which is much smaller than how it looks. I would have fallen down on to those rocks below and chances of surviving that fall is slim to none.
But I won’t be resting in peace. I will be living the shit out of my life. The only life I have, won’t be sold away to the highest bidder as we continue to sell ourselves as I wrote here. My time is worth more than to slave it away for someone else. I want to live dammit.
I don’t want to look back to find out that I never lived at all. Life is certainly an uncertainty. But life is a wonderful voyage through time taking us to places unknown. You only have this one chance to truly live it. To experience the destination. Our bodies are truly the prison of the soul, but that’s only if you shackle your body and stay grounded, when in life you can truly fly.
“And when the Earth shall claim your limbs, then shall you truly dance.” – Kahlil Gibran
Have you ever had a near death experience. What did you think of what I wrote?
