What it means to be an Earth Warrior
I have been living in Puerto Rico for about 8 years and I have been protesting with my signs around this beautiful island to raise awareness to the trash people throw all over this paradise. You could read and view pictures of my plight here.
My plight would have me go to 5 different beaches all in one day.
As I would walk down through these beaches I would collect any trash I would find along the way.
I would go to the beaches and raised awareness with my many signs for humanities neglect of Mother Earth and from there my journey went on to doing the same in the rest of the beaches.
I walk around by myself in this hot weather while everyone is out enjoying their day, while I dedicate my time and effort and to be the voice for those who can’t speak for themselves. Well they do speak, just like the Earth does, but we refuse to listen.
The beauty around us goes unnoticed and not cherished for the wonders that is our majestic home.
The animals have a heart beat just like we do, the Earth has a heart beat too but all we hear is a flat line as the beat does not pulsate for the people anymore.
It’s that connection we lost. We are the veins of the earth but we chose to cut the connection with the razor that has become “civilization”. Veins like the roots of the trees that entrenched itself in the earth deep down to its core. So should our roots too should connect more deeply.
I would feel more optimistic about a bright future for man if he spent less time proving that he can outwit Nature and more time tasting her sweetness and respecting her seniority.” ~Elwyn Brooks White”
As i grew tired and worn down as I continued down my path, I asked myself how do I keep doing this, week in and week out even to this day. The energy, the will, determination and courage to keep going. I then thought to myself, “I am an Earth warrior”.
I fight for Mother Earth, I stand tall like the trees that surround us. Many people don’t understand how hard it is to put yourself through this. To dedicate your life to this purpose. How emotionally and physically draining it is to do what I do, but to be a warrior means to re-energize yourself with what drains you.
I would walk miles upon miles, from beach to beach, going along the shore, picking up trash that is scattered all about in this beautiful paradise that is Boriken and our world.
I just keep going and going. It might not make the biggest of difference, but those are the dents we need to create as I truly believe that we are the dents that could make the biggest impact. We have to strive for positivity and strive for change that begins deep within. Deep inside the core.
The footprints we leave should be positive not negative. Beautiful scars that are forever imprinted in the fabric of time. That is what it means to be an Earth Warrior.
“Humankind has not woven the web of life. We are but one thread within it. Whatever we do to the web, we do to ourselves. All things are bound together. All things connect.” ~Chief Seattle”
To be an earth warrior is to care for what sustains us. To go beyond, to reverse the trend and to quit burying ourselves in this hole that we continue to dig not only for ourselves, but for the future that awaits, the next generations to come.
We have buried Mother Earth with our greed, ignorance and ego as we seek to exploit the land while contributing to the filth that we continue to cover this majestic world with and in turn ourselves.
We have turned earth into man’s slave. Into humanities servant.
Earth has become just a rock to what we call and consider civilization and forgot that the Mother Earth is our home, collectively along with all the many different species that inhabit this world.
Not just a country that binds us with flags and arbitrary border, but this whole beautiful world around us.
It is all connected even if we refuse to see it just because we have been plugged into an artificial world, when we must unplug and disconnect to connect and rediscover the love for your mother that you always have been a part of. That is what it means to be an Earth Warrior.
“Climb the mountains and get their good tidings. Nature’s peace will flow into you as sunshine flows into trees. The winds will blow their own freshness into you, and the storms their energy, while cares will drop off like autumn leaves.”
~John Muir”
I do get drained from doing what i do, for seeing OUR world through these eyes and feeling almost helpless, feeling like a speck of dust blowing through the wind while the world around me is saturated into obscurity.
But I am replenished by the sun that feeds me her energy and in turn my soul is replenished by what I continue to do week in and week out and that is what satisfies my soul.
I do get consumed by the ignorance of the people, but it drives me further as I want to get my messages across so that the seeds I plant could flourish, or hope that it would.
Hoping that my words would resonate and linger in their minds. Hoping that those words that linger in their heads translates into action, translates into change, translate to an awakening.
I am happy to hear people being inspired by what I do and that’s what I hope for and that is what I decided to live for.
Hope that what I do spawn more people in doing positive things for this world, and for each other.
To spawn more voices, our powerful voice that we have suppressed because we learned to grow fear in expressing ourselves, fear in being different. To spawn that inkling of a connection. That is what it means to be an Earth Warrior
I want a domino effect of positivity and that shift is upon us and I and many like me, just want to nudge it along.
People say that this world needs more people like me, I always say all you have to do is look in the mirror. You are that person.
We are just trapped in that mirror looking out through the mirror that is our world, but the mirror that we look at from the confines of our mirror has turned into a fun house mirror, where we see nothing but a warped distorted reality.
We have to shatter the glass and totally break free entirely, so that we can see clearly without seeing fragments. But most often it starts with those fragments of shattered glass that lay on the ground that becomes the puzzle that is life and we just have to piece the puzzle back together to see the true reality right on front of us.
If I have to be that first tumbling domino to get that snowball effect to a better world. Then I gladly would be that because that is what it means to be an Earth warrior.
Earth. There are no other planets to run off to when we further exploit Earth, dry like a barren wasteland that we are working so hard at achieving.
Instead of leaving something better tomorrow, all we leave is our negative impact and the remains of the bones of what we were and the destruction that we left behind as humanity has become Earth’s own natural disaster.
The remains of our bones will return back to the Earth we so neglected and it would have more life than what we made of it when we had our flesh and all the vital organs as we have become nothing lifeless, void of a consciousness.
A consciousness that has been dormant suffocated by the materialistic world that has consumed and engulfed us.
As we have chosen to suffocating our consciousness and this world around us with a plastic bag of our own making, just like the species that suffocate on the bag and filth that we continue to disregard. Which is why I choose to be an Earth warrior.
“There is hope if people will begin to awaken that spiritual part of themselves, that heartfelt knowledge that we are caretakers of this planet.”
~Brooke Medicine Eagle”
To be an Earth Warrior is to push things to the limit. The only possible course that a warrior has is to act consistently and without reservations.
On my solitary journey, protesting under this hot weather, I have blacked out on occasion where I had to lay on the sand to recover, but I would always get up and continue onto the path I have chosen.
I have walked miles upon miles, but within those miles, Mother Earth has made wiser. Has made me stronger. Has made my spirit richer.
I feel her abuse as I am part of the collective scar that has become humanity, but I choose to be beautiful scar embedded into the Earth.
A scar that won’t leave an ugly trace behind. The mark I strive to leave behind will be a beautiful one, just like the paradise around us that we chose to have turned into hell as we took heaven and confined it into a prison and for all these things and much more with all the fabric of my being through the fabric of time I will continue to be an Earth warrior!
“A warrior considers himself already dead, so there is nothing to lose. The worst has already happened to him, therefore he’s clear and calm; judging him by his acts or by his words, one would never suspect that he has witnessed everything.” – Carlos Castaneda”
