Hello to all my radically wild souls, I have lived in the beautiful paradise that is Puerto Rico for the last 9 years. It is where I grew a deep connection to nature.
This beautiful island has so much beauty, but one of the cons of living here is that it is noisy. As everywhere you go many of the people enjoy blasting their music or what some here call music, (reggaeton, trap garbage for the ears.) Being noisy seems to be part of the culture here on this island.
I live on a farm isolated far away from the road and you can hear their speakers loud as can be as there are some people who drive with their speakers facing outside their trunks of their cars or jeeps. Which should be illegal.
If you go to a beach or river, you would probably find a large speaker blasting that garbage music. Yes, many will defend that garbage as culture. But let’s be real, that is nothing but trash with trash lyrics, but I digress.
In the following video, I was at a beautiful waterfall, where many go to see one of the many enchantments of this beautiful island. It is a small space and this group of people thought that everyone needs to listen to that trash.
For many of the people on this island, they don’t go to these places to enjoy the beauty of life all around them. They go to get drunk, have a good time. Which could be said about everyone all around the world as many of us are so disconnected from nature that we don’t have a true appreciation for the beauty around us. To be able to sit down , contemplate the beauty of life and to listen to the sounds of nature. The sweet music that nature provides.
Being Guilty of this
As I said in the video, I was also guilty of this when I got to the island. I would visit this local beach here that got really packed with people. It was the place to be, at that time all I cares about was drinking and having a good time. I never noticed the beauty around me.
There you would would find large speakers everywhere. Music blaring over each other. So to silence all that noise, I made myself a ghetto cooler, but mine was not as loud. You could barely hear it from far. But it would drown the music that was going all around me. That was my way of obtaining my peace. Plus I was a DJ and so for me, it was party time as well.
Coming from Brooklyn, NY. Nature was a foreign concept to me. But something beautiful happened to me as I quit drinking alcohol and as of this writing have been 6 years sober., Started going to the beautiful places in nature and enjoyed my solitude and it is when my eyes opened up to the beauty of life around me. I transormed who I am and my state of mind. Because to be honest, when I quit drinking alcohol is where I feel I regained control of my mind.
In closing, There is a time and place for everything. But when in nature, that is the time to reflect and contemplate and to just be.
So in sharing this video and this post and other posts, I hope to inspire others to find their butterfly wings and learn to flap them. We don’t need alcohol, we don’t need music, life should not be about partying all the time. But to take the time to contemplate the beauty of life all around us and in us. Away from the distractions and noise, those layers of conformity that we have become numb to.
