Why Everyone Should Explore Nature In Puerto Rico
Why Everyone Should Explore Nature in Puerto Rico
Currently, I find myself on the beautiful island of Puerto Rico—a magical, enchanted place I’ve had the privilege of calling home for the past eight years, by way of Brooklyn, NY. Click here to read why I moved to Puerto Rico. I believe that everyone should explore nature in Puerto Rico.
Many people choose other destinations for their vacation getaways, but I feel Puerto Rico has so much to offer—and then some. The best part? If you’re a U.S. citizen, no passport is required since Puerto Rico is a U.S. territory.
Rivers, Beaches, Forests, Caves, Camping, Hiking! Oh My!
This magical island boasts about 5,385 miles of river, with approximately 225 named rivers. Simply walking along a river can lead you to countless hidden gems. Add to that over 300 beautiful beaches, each with its own unique charm and magic.
There’s a river or beach for every day of the year—and more! Puerto Rico’s condensed size means you can explore multiple spots in a single day, but why rush? Take your time to savor each one. Discover waterfalls tucked away in lush greenery and watch breathtaking sunsets that will linger in your memory forever.
The miles of coastline offer incredible snorkeling and diving adventures. Puerto Rico is home to vibrant marine life—turtles, stingrays, colorful fish, and even the occasional barracuda. Shark sightings are rare here, so you can swim without fear.
For surfers, Puerto Rico has plenty to offer, with incredible waves in areas like Rincón, Isabela, Aguadilla, and Manatí.
Adventures Beyond the Shore
For those seeking even more adventure, Puerto Rico is a nature lover’s playground. Go hiking in the lush trails of El Yunque Rainforest or explore the island’s many caves—some of which are adorned with ancient indigenous hieroglyphs. Try your hand at rock climbing, rappelling, or even camping. You can pitch your tent by a secluded river or beach and let nature be your sanctuary.
As for wildlife, Puerto Rico is teeming with life. You’ll see reptiles like iguanas, vibrant birds, and, on nearby islands like Vieques and Culebra, wild horses and deer. Puerto Rico has no venomous creatures roaming about, making it a safe haven for exploring freely.
Immerse Yourself in the Beauty of Life
Many in this world are deeply disconnected from nature. When people come to Puerto Rico on vacation, they often turn to drinking as a way to escape. But why drink when you have all this enchanted beauty to intoxicate your soul?
Consider getting drunk off the vibrancy of life instead. Make beautiful memories rather than blurring your days away. Be mindful of the details—the towering trees, the clouds floating above, the mushrooms quietly growing in the shade. Feel the wind caress your skin, the roughness of tree bark beneath your hands.
This island is alive, and it invites you to immerse yourself in its wonders. One of the tours I offer is a forest therapy experience, where I guide you in reconnecting not only with nature but with yourself. Together, we slow down, listen deeply, and rediscover the beauty that surrounds us—and lies within us.
Defending Paradise
For the past five years, I’ve taken it upon myself to defend Puerto Rico’s beautiful beaches and rivers from the trash left behind by careless visitors. Armed with signs to raise awareness, I’ve grown tired of seeing this paradise treated like a landfill. Click here to read why I became its guardian.
While garbage is a global issue, Puerto Rico has many pristine spots off the beaten path. Yet, too often, people toss trash out of car windows, and the roads bear the brunt of this carelessness. I urge everyone to take the one-trash-bag challenge: bring a bag on your adventure and fill it with the trash you find. Let’s set an example and inspire others to care for this paradise.
Exploring Nature Is Exploring Yourself
Exploring the beauty of Puerto Rico isn’t just about seeing rivers, beaches, and forests—it’s also about uncovering yourself. Spending time in solitude amidst these natural wonders has helped me shed the layers of conformity I once wore. I’ve gone from the concrete jungle of Brooklyn to becoming radically wild, deeply reconnected with Mother Nature.
Puerto Rico is the perfect place for this transformation. Its vibrant, untouched beauty calls us back to the essence of who we are.
So, come to this beautiful paradise and explore its many enchantments. Whether you’re looking for a guided tour to radically wild places or advice on where to go, I’m here to help. The people are warm and welcoming, the weather is delightful, and the experiences are unforgettable.
Let’s cherish this island for what it is: paradise.
